Starting from the Grimwith Reservoir car park and picnic site, the walk takes you on a tour round the reservoir, its nature reserve and protected wetland areas.

As you make your way round the route you will discover poetic inscriptions in the dry-stone walls and a little history about the historically significant Grimwith High Laithe, as well as the opportunity for wildfowl and bird-spotting, including lapwing, curlew, oystercatcher and wigeon.

Just updated the route after a recent physical route check and can now confirm the route is now easily walkable in normal shoes for the whole route. Appologies for the delay in the update but my current round the clock caring role for an elderly relative with dementia means I don't get out anywhere near as often as I would like to check my current routes or investigate new ones.

Have now run the route through OSmaps and got the ascent as 192 metres (629ft) - this is the same order above my figure as Waynes is below it. Leading me to believe the discrepancy is purely down to mapping app accuracy levels and/or the way different apps measure the ascent. So I am inclined to leave the figure as is, at least for now as it is the median of the 3 recorded ascent measurements.

Did this walk 2 days ago (01/06/16) in a howling gale. The area described as 'boggy' seems to have been upgraded and should be fine at any time of the year. My phone app says the height gain was 256 feet but it felt much less. Even so, it was not the 410 feet stated so should be easy for most people.
