From Grosmont Station we follow the Rail Trail path created along the old trackbed through the beautiful Esk Valley to Beck Hole, with maybe the passing of a steam train as we walk along. From the village a short steep climb brings us out onto the moor for a walk through the fields above the valley (an optional climb up to the waterfall can be made from here as well for the energetic!) Our final section follows the ancient pannier ponies' stone-flagged pathways through more beautiful deciduous woodlands back to Grosmont.

September 2024. Completed this walk on a lovely autumnal day. It is excellent - so much variety in a relatively short walk! Apart from the woodlands and open views, not to mention the railway, there is interesting signage about iron working and whinstone mining along the way. A very enjoyable stroll and just past the church, returning to the village, there is an excellent cafe in the old school.
