Beginning from the picturesque little town of Beniarda, we walk downhill to join the quiet little lane that meanders above the northern side of the reservoir. When not in pinewoods, we can enjoy the most stunning views of the surrounding mountains and to our south, the castles of Guadalest and Benimantell high above us. Eventually we shall descend to cross the dam and then join a track that will take us in a north-westerly direction along the southern side of the reservoir. Much of this stretch is in cool pine forest and we have to cross a couple of streams running down to the reservoir, which could be quite tricky immediately after heavy rain. Soon we branch away from the water and begin our ascent back up to Beniarda, where a couple of cafés should be able to offer a reward. In springtime – generally March - the pine trees give off clouds of yellow pollen, which people with allergies might care to note.

A really lovely walk along a very quiet country lane until you reach the dam - very impressive piece of architecture. Return is by a track and much quicker. Recommended.
