An easy stretch of the Hadrian's Wall walk with only small amounts of the wall still visible, from Port Gate we follow the path as it runs parallel to the road through pastures to pass Halton Shields and on to the Robin Hood Inn at Wallhouses, a passport-stamping station.
We then continue along the path to pass Harlow Hill and the reservoirs before reaching Vindobala Roman Fort. From here we cross the A69 to walk into Heddon-on-the-Wall and on to see one of the last visible sections of the wall as we approach Newcastle.
