The walk starts in the picturesque park of Hardwick. The visitor centre has recently been built from lottery funds. From the park you will go through some of Sedgefields lovely countryside including the carrs. Carrs is an old Saxon name for wetlands or sedges from where Sedgefield gets its name.

Before you get to the castle there is a bird hide overlooking a large lake which is well worth a visit. From there you will go on to Bishop Middleham with its castle remains.

A short detour North of the castle will take you to the 12th Century Church of St Michaels As you return back to Hardwick there is a small nature reserve also worth a visit.

Did this walk yesterday. The area between waypoints 4-6 has been completely spoiled by a huge motorbike course. The noise was deafening and there were huge dustclouds drifting over us, and it ruined the first half of the walk for us. Even when you can't see the track, you can hear it throughout most of the whole walk. What a shame.
