Harestanes is a popular family venue just a few miles from Jedburgh. I have combined two of its waymarked walks to ascend to the Waterloo Monument that stands high on Peniel Heugh and followed it by a short road-walk to join St Cuthbert's Way and the Roman Dere Street back to Harestanes.

This is a pleasant walk mainly through woodland and with one moderately strenuous section up to the Waterloo Monument - made very worthwhile by splendid and extensive views. The return leg from Waymark 10 to 11 along the road was rather dull in comparison and I wondered if there was not a route through Pond Wood instead? Nevertheless, well signposted and good directions. Thank you!
