Harleston is a small market town with a Wednesday market and a wide selection of shops and cafes. The walk starts in the town centre but quickly gains open country, where well-signed and well-used paths lead to Pulham St Mary. After an optional detour (recommended) to the café, the walk again follows well-maintained tracks and reaches Starston. There is an attractive village meadow with benches before the final leg back to Harleston, en route crossing a disused railway embankment, a legacy of the pre-Beeching days.
