From Hartside we follow a good farm track to Alnhammoor Farm, then tackle a gentle climb up the moor to Cobden. Here we pass the woodland along another farm track to reach Chesters, a remote house used by the scouts. Leaving the house, we pass the area of an ancient settlement where conical-roofed, stone-walled huts once stood during the Roman occupation of Britain. From here the views are wonderful, with the Cheviot Hills before us to the north and the surrounding hills and valleys making a beautiful backdrop. Leaving the settlement we traverse down the hillside and through the woodland, to walk back along the valley to Alnhammoor, then retrace our footsteps to Hartside.

Please see Additional Info for possible alternative avoiding the cleared woodland. This is not a tested reroute so further information is most welcome. Walkingworld Admin

We did this walk today, first part was great, best views though were when we looked back. Turning to return we had to struggle through very tall bracken and the path was little walked so not easy. The instructions said to walk through the wood on the bridleway. Unfortunately the whole wood has been cleared with all the debris from the trees being chopped down just littered the whole area. We were left with a very dangerous walk with no clear path to get through this area. No way a bridleway should have been left in this condition. Once through the remaining walk was great.
