The walk is just outside the western boundary of Haslingden, an area known as Haslingden Grane and starts at a Visitor Centre on the north side of the A6177. It goes first along the north side of the valley, following the Rossendale Way. The main road is then crossed by a pub and a restaurant, when the route runs along the south side of the three reservoirs and then through some attractive woodland. The outward leg is on higher ground and offers fine views of the surrounding Pennine moorlands.

Quite a number of stiles where you would need to lift dog over. Daisy (cross yorkshire/jack russell terrier) is getting quite adept at crossing stiles but has problems with ladder stiles.
