Starting at the market place in Hedon, the walk quickly leaves the town centre to follow a road with a good cycle- and footpath to reach the village of Thorngumbald. There is then a pleasant track alongside a drainage channel to the Humber shore and Fort Paull. This solidly built structure dates back to Tudor times, but is mostly Napoleonic era. Within its walls and open for visits is the only remaining Blackburn Beverley transport aircraft. The route back to the start follows Hedon Haven.

Many thanks to Ken Allan for the useful feedback. Flood defense work does take time and is inevitably disruptive but essential, of course. As it is 'temporary' I would concur with Ken, and walk along Thorngumbold Road until the works are complete. There is a grassy escape verge for most of the distance, then a clear track to Fort Paull. There doesn't seem to be a logical alternative to the short bit of Burstwick Drain. At the time of writing it up I felt this was the walk's less appealing section.

Please note that the footpath is closed at waypoint 5 due to major repairs to the salt marsh tidal barrier. It has been closed for about a year and I would guess it may be quite some time before the work is complete. I suggest walkers turn right at Lakes Farm before waypoint 5 and walk carefully along Thorngumbbald Road heading towards Paull for about 0.75Km, turning left down a connecting track to repick up the path heading down to the Humber bank. Would have rated this walk as a 4 but for the heavy dog poo fouling around Burstwick drain which is a disgrace. I would modify this walk to avoid this part section of the walk.
