An easy walk which takes us from Holburn Grange to the dramatic, overhanging sandstone cave of St Cuthbert, in St Cuthbert's Cave Wood, owned by the National Trust. From here we follow part of the long-distance path, where on a good day Lindisfarne Castle can be seen over on Holy Island. We then follow the track through Shiellow Wood, a lovely stretch of woodland that takes us on to Holburn, before returning to Holburn Grange where more super views across to the Cheviots and the Borders can be seen on a clear day.

A lovely walk with some fine views and of course, interesting to see the cave itself. When we did the walk (June 09) with our dogs, just be aware that at this time when crossing from Waymarks 3 to 4, we crossed fields with cows in them. There where some calves about and the mothers weren't too happy about us going through the field and paid us very close attention. We kept the dogs on a short lead and just walked on and got through ok but it was quite an un-nerving experience. Just something to bear in mind.
