This walk is never far away from the River Wye as its course heads around a long ridge jutting out in its path. The river is crossed twice by two suspension footbridges and in between, the route takes you along the top of the ridge which is encircled by the river.

The walk heads back to the start by following the river around the huge bend, the last part of which follows the Wye Valley Walk along the banks of the river. The walk takes you through several delightful villages along the way, but they are all very small and consequently there are no pubs or shops along the route of the walk, so you will need to take your own food and drink with you.

Highly recommended. Parking was straightforward (Oct 2023). A lovely walk past some very pretty churches. Surprisingly good views of the surrounding landscape, using well walked and well maintained paths. Apart from a couple of gates now missing, instructions are accurate and easy to follow.

The walk contributor, Sean, has checked the parking for walk 4668 now, and the parking is still there, as described in the walk. There is a gate, but there is plenty of room to park without blocking the gate. However, a sign has been put up which is new, and this probably put John (see previous comment) off from parking there. It says 'No overnight parking'. This suggests that it is OK to park there during the day time. There is also a camera on top of the sign, which may discourage parking as well. John mentions a new parking area 200 metres along the road. There is now a large passing area by the footbridge, and there were about three cars parked in there when Sean passed, so it could be used if the space is not already full.

I would strongly recommend starting this walk at St. Mary's Church in Foy, HR9 6QY where there is a carpark for a dozen or so vehicles (51.952618673296115, -2.586786041162228). This location is at Waypoint 4 so the route instructions remain as written. The original parking point at WP1 no longer exists but you may be really lucky to park 200m down the road towards Hole in the Wall where there now exists a passing place.

Gorgeous walk with great views & very dog friendly. We completed this walk today 08/04/23 & the going was generally going under foot. Fab & varied walks with lots of places for the dogs to swim away from the fast flowing Wye.

Pleasant walk on a hot summer day and yes the farmer is right the views are good. Most of the stiles have now been replaced by metal gates. Viewranger confirms it is just over 9 miles but it is an easy walk.

A very enjoyable walk with easy to follow directions. My GPS says it's 9 miles.

A most enjoyable walk. We think it's more a moderate walk as it is quite flat except for 2 gradual climbs. The instructions were spot on and we walked yesterday 23/10/11 with the whole family ranging from 7 - 50+ years old. Lots of wildlife to see and crossed 2 suspension foot bridges which my little lad was very enthuiastic about. Recommended and will be doing again :)

I did this walk on 25/5/09 and it's a very pleasant gentle stroll for a couple of hours along the Wye valley. Be very careful with parking on the road at the start - there is a kids' activity/canoeing centre in the village which brings in mini buses and coaches so the road is busier than it might seem.
