Starting from the car park and following the River Trent, the route passes the slalom course, where if there is activity such as canoeing or raft racing it can be worth a few or more minutes watching the antics that occur whilst the occupants fight the raging water.
Then we go on to view the Holme Lock and any water traffic such as barges that may be passing through the locks. Continuing, the route follows the river closely, an ideal time for birdwatchers. We then turn into the sports centre grounds and through the Skylark Nature Reserve, again a good spot for birdwatchers.
Eventually we come back to the Sports Centre Lake and walk on to the cafe-restaurant, where a hot or cold meal can be found if need be.
