Swettenham is a place little-visited. This is because it lies off the beaten track down a no through road and is, in the main, frequented only by local people. This isolation has resulted in a hamlet where the hurly-burly of modern life seems so far away.

"The Quinta" in Swettenham is the home of the late Sir Bernard Lovell, after whom the radio telescope at Jodrell Bank is named; don't forget to visit the arboretum. There is a fine old church with a square tower and at its rear, a fine old inn called the Swettenham Arms, where the food and drink is well worth stopping for.

30/09/12 Some of the directions didn't seem to make sense. Managed to find our way round but only because we had the map. Got attacked by a couple of horses at one point and had to jump over a fence. Typical Cheshire walk - lot of the paths have had crops planted on them so difficult to follow and some of them have been fenced off to keep horses in. Too many land owners don't want us to use these paths.

I did this walk yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. I took my dog which involved a fair bit of carrying over stiles but mostly fine. From waypoint 18 to 19-20ish gets a bit interesting as it's overgrown, narrow and steep with an electric fence near your shoulder but it added a bit of fun to the walk :) it's a bit longer than it says on the tin.

Many thanks to Eric for sending us an update in response to Michael Whiteside's Comment. Walk updated January 2010.

I took the short option for this walk turning down to the pub at checkpoint 12 and still walked about 6 miles according to my GPS tracklog. A lovely walk, highly recommended
