This is a linear walk taking advantage of any of a number of bus services that connect Woodhall Spa and Horncastle (see Access Information). Horncastle is an antique collectors' paradise, with many antique shops; it's well worth spending some time browsing around them. A leaflet with details of all the antique shops is available from the local Tourist Information Centre. Contact them on 'tourism@e-lindsey.gov.uk' and they will be happy to send you one.
Starting from the Market Square in Horncastle, where most bus services terminate, this walk starts with a short tour around some points of historical interest before returning to the Market Square. You may choose to skip this part by starting at Waymark 7.
For the next part of our walk, we pick up the Viking Way (a long-distance footpath running between the Humber Bridge in the north and Oakham (Rutland Water) in the south). This leads us quickly out into open countryside and along the banks of the Horncastle Canal. The flat terrain means that the miles just melt away and very soon the walk joins a disused railway line, which it follows for 5km.
The last part of the walk passes through the famous Woodhall Spa Golf Course, before ending in Woodhall Spa itself. This inland resort is a very interesting place and you would be well advised to set aside some time to explore it.
