The picture-book village of Hornton lies in a valley and is built of the warm, gold-coloured stone once quarried here, but now taken from further afield. The walk starts from the village green, around which attractive houses and cottages stand; and the walker gets a taste of this peaceful setting before leaving the village by the main street, to walk on bridleways and footpaths in glorious countryside. The route visits Ratley, another lovely village of Horton Stone and circles part of it, too good to miss, as you will no doubt agree as you walk past handsome dwellings and note some of their interesting names. The third village of Warmington is skirted, but could easily be included if desired, by diverting just a little from the given route. There are some quite strenuous climbs throughout this walk, but always in areas of breathtaking beauty, the panoramic scenes of patchwork fields ever-present.

9/23/2022 - Michael Corfield

We did this walk in September 2022 and thoroughly enjoyed it. The route uses well used and generally well marked paths. Some of the house names quoted had either been changed or weren't obvious to us. The only slight problem we had was at waypoint 13. If you take the stile and continue in the same direction, the hedge/fencing is on your right, not your left. The track leading to the road is actually a green lane ("D'Arcy Dalton Way") and is better accessed by walking a few yards past the stile (which is slightly hidden in the hedge) and turning left up the green lane. You now have the hedge/fencing on your left. Nonetheless the route was easy to follow especially when using the Walking World app. Once at Warmington we made the small diversion to The Plough Inn, which is a lovely dog friendly pub.
