The picture-book village of Hornton lies in a valley and is built of the warm, gold-coloured stone once quarried here, but now taken from further afield. The walk starts from the village green, around which attractive houses and cottages stand; and the walker gets a taste of this peaceful setting before leaving the village by the main street, to walk on bridleways and footpaths in glorious countryside. The route visits Ratley, another lovely village of Horton Stone and circles part of it, too good to miss, as you will no doubt agree as you walk past handsome dwellings and note some of their interesting names. The third village of Warmington is skirted, but could easily be included if desired, by diverting just a little from the given route. There are some quite strenuous climbs throughout this walk, but always in areas of breathtaking beauty, the panoramic scenes of patchwork fields ever-present.
