WARNING see note about 2 hour parking limit. Possibly find alternative street parking.

This walk covers a mixture of woodland and open spaces. It provides additional interest to both motor racing and light aircraft enthusiasts in that it passes both the new McLaren site and Fairoaks Airfield (passing both ends of the runway at different sections of the walk).

A short cut is possible, which cuts down the total length to 3.7 miles but involves walking a short way along a main road.

Although I have not used it, there is a coffee shop at Fairoaks Airport (entrance from the A319).

Walked 21.11.20 This is a lovely walk and very easy as there is virtually zero height gain. You start with a lovely woodland section, pass the McLaren building and then get to walk across the end of an active aerodrome! after which you go through more lovely woodland before a refreshing easy walk on the return leg back towards your start point. Word of caution, the car park is limited now to 2 hours max stay (which is not enough time for the full walk). You can park in the adjacent road Woodham Road and cut through the wood to reach the start point. (updates sent to WW). 10/10.

Such a lovely and varied walk.We were lucky enough to see a plane take off and had to make a run for it as another landed just over our heads ! Easy walk but one of my favourite to date.

Great walk. McLaren landscaped and planted, grasses left uncut making it wildlife friendly. Saw numerous butterflies, a kingfisher and further on a woodpecker. The Airfield very busy, lots of light aircraft taking off and landing as well as helicopters. Unfortunately no time to stop at the tea room, but will try next time.

Following Philiip Wlazlo's comment, the Mclaren area has been tidied up considerably and all has been reseeded. There are plans also to add additional footpaths in this area. I will update the walk when this has been done. Also much of the path to the eastern end of Fairoaks has been tarmaced to make for much pleasanter walking (less muddy).

Note: As of date of writing (19/05/10), the area around the McLaren site has been dug up. Looks like a quarry. This is only a short part of the walk though and is still a very nice route.

Great walk, I'm not a fan but do they use McLaren Park to film Teletubbies? Loved the variety of interest. Thanks

Lovely walk - watching the planes take off and land is great! Good diversity between open land and forest.

I can now recommend the cafe (Hanger Cafe) mentioned at WP07. It also has a patio area where you can watch the aircraft. If you decide to go there, go into the main entrance of the airport and bear right. The cafe is on the left. If you then decide on the shortcut to WP11 you can exit the airport in that direction without returning to the main road.

Wow!. What a great walk. Some hair raising stuff walking across the end of the active runway... erm, only runway at Fairoaks. A varied, interesting and lovely walk. Well done 9/10
