In and out the dusty Bluebell

Starting from the Bluebell Railway Station at Horsted Keynes, the route heads first through pretty Horsted Keynes Village. It then heads south through woodland and farmland, crossing the railway at one point. Following the West Sussex Border Path for some of its route, the walk then heads east towards Sheffield Park Station, the southern terminus of the Bluebell Railway.

The railway uses original steam locomotives to give today's visitors a taste of the 'Age of Steam'. Please check timetables and prices at www.bluebell-railway.co.uk before going. At certain times of year trains stop running early and do not run at all during the week in winter.

A really lovely walk. We opted to do the train part first so as to avoid stressing about train times during our walk. One thing to note: on the day we did our walk (28 October 2014) The Sloop was closed for refurbishment and judging from appearances, isn't going to re-open anytime soon.

This is a great walk which shows why the High Weald is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The signage has been improved since the walk was written, so now very easy to follow. The Sloop Inn is an excellent lunch stop - quality, locally sourced food and very friendly staff. Just one point the very bottom of the map is missing.

Just to say this is my first walk using the Walkingworld website. It was so easy I just took the instruction sheet. No map needed. Thank you so much. John West Sussex

Lovely walk with clear instructions. Our Labrador (can't jump) managed all the stiles except at waymarks 36 & 38 where he needed to be helped over the top. We had lunch at The Sloop. Kids welcome, dogs welcome in bar area and garden. Dog welcome on train...30p extra!
