Hurley to Hall Place and back

This walk starts at Hurley and takes you west along the Thames Path for a while. Then you climb the hills to the south, before the fairly level countryside near Warren Row and Burchett's Green. On the way back you pass Hall Place, used as the Berkshire College of Agriculture, before coming back down the hill to Hurley again. Hurley itself has many interesting buildings, so you might wish to have a look round before or after the walk.

There are no stiles, but several gates. The initial slope up the hill is fairly gentle and steady: the hill on the way back is a bit steeper but there is a handrail. Some sections could be muddy after a bit of rain, when boots would be advisable.

Really enjoyable walk with the autumn tree colours at their best. Just an update, The Black Boys Inn is now longer open, not sure if this is temporary due to Covid but I fear it is now permanently closed. However, I am happy to confirm that the Dew Drop Inn and The Rising Sun are both still open for business and both serving excellent beers - which I can personally vouch for. Alas, The Olde Bell, in Hurley seems to have gone in the same way as The Black Boys Inn. Still, two very good pubs on a pleasant route is definitely a bonus. The route was well described and only slightly muddy despite considerable rainfall the previous day.

A very pleasant walk beginning in the most attractive village of Hurley and then along the Thames before turning inland and a gentle climb to the Chiltern Way. At High Wood there are great views across the Thames valley. Good directions and well placed Inns.
