Save Our Footpaths - get off the beaten track, this circular walk includes footpaths which are not often used. Starting from the modern 'Inn at Huxley' pub, this walk has some unusual route features of interest to a variety of folk. It's unlikely you will pass through fields of farm animals but expect to be quite close to some on occasions. The stiles are old but in good order, except for the one in the photo - which can be avoided with a little scrambling. The route is mainly level, and the occasional slopes are gentle. The signage along the footpaths is poor. The walk is best done in summer as in winter or after heavy rain there are likely to be very soggy fields, and in places muddy sections of grass towpath. You will need to a little agile as there are a few tape fences to be stepped over and a horse jump to be scrambled over. The walk includes instructions for moored canal boat users.
The walk is probably suitable for most children, senior citizens and anyone in-between. Good for dogs, but hopeless for wheelchairs and buggies. Suitable footwear will be strong trainers or stout shous, but boots will be best and essential in winter or after heavy rain. There should be no problems for anyone wearing shorts. On your route there are refreshments and food and toilets at the pub at the start and finish, also a butchers and deli on the pub car park. Except for the occasional bench seat there are no other facilities on this walk. If you book in advance at the pub, you should be able to get a good meal with a drink; an excellent finish to a good walk.
