From the station you soon follow a high-banked path along the River Colne before turning off to pass Essex University, then walking through Wivenhoe Park. From here you walk through a few field edges and down a couple of roads to reach Churn Wood. Briefly pass through here to pass by Crockleford Mill before entering Welsh Wood. Now it's mainly walking through built-up areas and passing through a park before arriving back at Hythe Station.
