Initially the walk passes through pleasant woodland to ascend above a waterfall. After climbing out of the valley the route swings further up the hillside and gives good views of the surrounding countryside before returning via General Wade's Military Road. (General Wade was appointed as Commander-in-Chief of the army in Northern Britain by George I in 1724. In order to facilitate troop movements, he had military roads built linking the garrisons at Ruthven, Fort George, Fort Augustus and Fort William).

For those wanting a shorter walk it is possible to visit the waterfall without doing the rest of the walk – either as a there-and-back linear walk or a shorter, circular walk (about 2.5km, 70m height gain).

May 2023: The longer route described is closed as the bridge is unsafe. Please let us know if you find it repaired.

Great walk. Two steep sections but great views at the top. Am afraid the picnic bench is gone but there is a bench at the car park.
