This walk starts alongside the East Lancashire Railway and climbs uphill towards Edenfield Village. A further climb takes you to the highest point of the walk, with views across the valley towards Ramsbottom (south) and Helmshore and Haslingden (north). It passes through a local beauty spot by a stream. Then it goes through the edge of Turn, crosses several roads and goes down lanes towards Stubbins.

On leaving Stubbins the footpath runs between houses and their gardens before passing alongside the River Irwell to Strongstry Hamlet. Leaving Strongstry, the walk travels above the river along a National Cycle Route and then back alongside the river to Irwell Vale. The last part of the walk is through Irwell Vale and back to the start position.

29.4.21 Still a very lovely walk, but the station Carpark is temporarily closed so you need to allow a little extra time (and be considerate) to find a space nearby.

Enjoyed this walk on 16/9/20, which was a nice sunny day; the flowering Himmalyan Balsam was remarkable, as was the walk generally - pleasant, varied, and offering nice views.

On using the route today, there is a diversion at route waymark 22 due to river bank works. We were lucky to be just about to follow the route after crossing the river via the garden when a local man pointed us to the other side and a diversion through the village of Chatterton. A most pleasing diversion and an alternative route as we saw some lovely houses and a rather nice park!

My friend and I followed the route today and found it to be brilliant. My friend said the planning out of the route and the photos were just great and exactly what she felt route guides should be. We even found the end of the route marked by the same red car in the photo at waymark 32! Never saw the dog though ;)
