This is the shortest section of the Journey, a quiet stroll on the banks of the Hodder, followed by a permitted path which enables you to avoid most of the road-walking. Whitewell is a scattered hamlet, its most notable features an old church and an inn. Despite the low altitude, there are good views of the fells and hills around the Hodder Valley.
