The walk is more varied than the title might suggest as there is more to it than simply following the edge of a reservoir. It includes a section alongside a river and a beautiful woodland section with mature beeches, plus a high-level track towards the end with good views of the Pennines. Underfoot it is mostly gravelled tracks and although they have their moments, we found the going fairly easy even after weeks of heavy rain.

The walk is described as starting from Jumbles Country Park but Turton Hall car park is another option as the walk passes through it. In addition, there is a pub less than five minutes' walk from Waymark 18 and their car park could be used with permission. There are bus stops from both directions on the road outside the pub.
