Skiddaw dominates Keswick from the north and Latrigg, on its southern slopes, has been called 'the cub of Skiddaw', as if lying at its feet. Its ascent is a popular climb and there is a well-made track all the way up with no stiles at all.

I did see a family with a buggy on the summit and if you were to return by the way up instead of completing the whole walk this is a good option, although I have no idea how strenuous it would be. If you can manage a few stiles then a buggy could be taken the whole way.

The descent is mostly very gradual and the return along the bed of the old railway is a delightful riverside walk.

An awesome walk for a day when the higher fells are inaccessible. This walk takes you quite high up onto the fells but without the worry of a mountain challenge. The views of Skiddaw and Keswick are spectacular and the descent is the best ever steady grassland walk down to reach the old railway line. The railway part drags on for 'ages' but is very pleasant and easy. There is a lovely boardwalked section and the old station is interesting... Waypoint 15, trees have changed (WW picture updated). A perfect Grindle walk. 10/10.
