Keswick to Latrigg Fell by Brundholme Woods

Walk 3158, which goes over Latrigg Fell, still cannot be finished as replacements for the bridges swept away by Storm Desmond have not even started yet. I have devised this alternative which I have made as different as possible; it runs in the opposite direction, has a slightly different start and an alternative off the summit. Most importantly, it goes through Brundholme Woods, an undertaking in itself as the mapping of paths and tracks is inaccurate. However, I did it and I offer it to those with an adventurous turn of mind. Outside the woods things could not be simpler and the walk still has the same extensive views to enjoy from the summit, plus an enterprising refreshment van halfway round!

This is an excellent walk particularly for those who cannot do the big ones or if the mist is down on the high tops. You get similar outstanding views from a lower level. Unfortunately though the path between WP 12 and 13 is shut due to forestry works (Oct 19 ). I did carry on but it was hard work so I would not recommend it until the work is finished. It is probably best to take the track right at WP 9 down to the road then pick the route up again at WP 15. Do not let this put anyone off from doing this fine walk.

Did this walk today in brilliant sunshine - lovely but unusual for February!! Instructions very clear and the 'Bean on the fell' was most welcome ( hot chocolate for me and hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows for my wife) and reasonably priced. She said she is not there on Fridays but most other days depending on the weather (also corrected me on the name - see above!)
