A linear walk from the 1860s station at Keswick, following the well-preserved trackbed to Threlkeld. The trackbed has been converted by the National Park Authority to create a mainly flat footpath and cycleway. There are many fine views, splendid Victorian structures to admire and the walk passes though a tunnel!

The walk is ideal for walkers of all abilities and is particularly rewarding for pushchairs and wheelchair users, who can return by the same route at any point.

Interestingly, for all the well-preserved examples of Victorian railway engineering, the most celebrated structure on the walk is the magnificent Keswick Bridge built in the early 1970s, carrying the A66 over the River Gretna (and the footpath). The structure was voted 'Structure of the Century' by the Concrete Magazine.

I regularly walk the Railway when in Keswick, it is a favourite walk, and brilliant for dog walkers. It is stunning in the autumn when the leaves have turned. Watch out for the Red Squirrels.
