A linear walk from the 1860s station at Keswick, following the well-preserved trackbed to Threlkeld. The trackbed has been converted by the National Park Authority to create a mainly flat footpath and cycleway. There are many fine views, splendid Victorian structures to admire and the walk passes though a tunnel!

The walk is ideal for walkers of all abilities and is particularly rewarding for pushchairs and wheelchair users, who can return by the same route at any point.

Interestingly, for all the well-preserved examples of Victorian railway engineering, the most celebrated structure on the walk is the magnificent Keswick Bridge built in the early 1970s, carrying the A66 over the River Gretna (and the footpath). The structure was voted 'Structure of the Century' by the Concrete Magazine.

The track and three bridges were badly damaged in Storm Desmond in 2015 but after a £5m project the path is now reopened.

Today I tried to walk the railway walk to find the walk was shut down completely due to bridge repairs caused by the 2015 floods. How long does it take to repair these things? My day was wasted so I advise to keep away as it looked a long time before things will improve.

I regularly walk the Railway when in Keswick, it is a favourite walk, and brilliant for dog walkers. It is stunning in the autumn when the leaves have turned. Watch out for the Red Squirrels.
