Kidsgrove - Newchapel - The Rookery - Scholar Green - Kidsgrove
This circular walk starting in the town of Kidsgrove on the Staffordshire / Cheshire border, incorporates the track of the old North Staffordshire Railway (affectionately called Knotty) which linked the towns of Stoke-on-Trent and is now a walkway. After leaving the walkway and an urban area behind, the walk crosses into Cheshire with views up to Mow Cop and its folly, before joining the Macclesfield Canal. The walk now follows this tranquil canal as it winds its way back to Kidsgrove, where it joins the Trent and Mersey Canal. Before returning to the start a short diversion takes you to the north portal of the Harecastle Tunnel, which at 2,926 yards is one of the longest in the country.
