The walk starts in Kingsteignton, once reputedly the largest village in England, but now it has changed status to a town to prevent being merged into Newton Abbot. The trail begins on the outskirts of the town and quickly enters the countryside via Ideford Combe, which follows the quiet Combe Valley all the way up to the ancient Saxon village of Ideford, nestling under Haldon Hill. This then with a series of twists and turns continues down quiet country lanes with one or two steep climbs before returning to Kingsteignton.
