This circular walk has a little bit of road-work before rambling along miles of unspoilt Devon coastline. The area is so scenic that anyone who likes beauty or is a photographer should allow two to three hours' extra time for 'scenic stops'.
The small bay at Kingswear Castle is tranquil and invites a stopover for a rest and refreshments. You can easily lose an hour here before continuing along this beautiful coastline from the mouth of the River Dart, defended on the other side by Dartmouth Castle, along the rugged South Devon coastline.
The route takes the walker through the more modern and extensive World War Two complex at Froward Point. The route is well-marked and traverses many hills, each hill and turn presenting the walker with new vistas to delight in. The whole of this part of the coast may be considered scenic and there are many opportunities to stop for a rest or simply to 'chill out'. If you are a 'route-march' type of walker you could probably complete the walk in under four hours, but you would be sadly missing out on much of the beauty and relaxation that is priceless therapy. The walkers' signposts appear to be in Devonshire miles, which are quite a bit further than standard miles.
