A lovely rural walk embracing a gentle climb from Kintbury onto the Berkshire Downs, with wide-open views, fields and bluebell woods, then a gradual descent to Hamstead Marshall and the river and canal towpath walk back to Kintbury. There are two pubs en route plus more in Kintbury.

A lovely walk for a spring afternoon. Through the wood section there are hundreds of bluebells. Give it another week or two and they will be in full swing (so by mid-late April). Perfect directions in every way. Avoided the dog rehoming centre due to menacing cows but you can detour to the top left of the field, go down to the bottom right of the next field to take you into the farm and back onto the walk. Thoroughly enjoyed this one! well recommended 9/10.

Pleasant, varied walk with good instructions and signage. Fisherman near Kintbury were using huge 'tube' fishing rods which often blocked towpath and had to be climbed over!!

Excellent walk - very good combination of fields, woods & water. A fine example of a "rural" walk easily accessible. A point to bear in mind -we did it on late Bank Hoilday Monday, with good weather, which meant the canal towpath (which is narrow in places) was quite busy with cyclists (all very courteous & grateful to be given "right of way". (I'm afraid we've lost the name of the author of this comment. If you notice this can you please get in touch so I can rectify it. Many thanks, Chris)
