Lying close to Dumfries, the parish of Kirkmahoe is yet very rural. This is a flat and easy walk from the village of Kirkton which follows a burn and then the river along a raised path or flood-bank, returning via a grassy track and a lane. There are views to the hills and plenty of wildlife to be seen along the route.
