The often overlooked little town of Knaresborough has many attractions over and above the famous Mother Shipton's Cave and it's worth taking plenty of time to explore it. But when you're done, why not try this walk along the beautiful Nidd Gorge, which runs into the town from the north-west. The Woodland Trust-owned broadleaved woodland is well geared up for walkers and though popular with locals, is yet to be discovered by a wider visitor base.

Once the walk leaves the gorge, the return is via the higher pasture and meadowland between Harrogate and Knaresborough. On a sunny June day, the chocolate-box views can take your breath away.

The walk itself is mostly circular, but the first and last 1.5 kilometres are along almost the same route.

The Yorkshire Lass is now demolished! However, the signage is good, follow the Beryl Burton Cycleway.

Chose this walk based on the comment about it being quiet and no people. I think the cat is out the bag! Very popular with walkers & cyclists but an enjoyable and easy going walk. Instructions are clear and easy to follow.

A wonderful walk, quiet and peaceful, no traffic or people, and only the noise of the river Nidd running over the rocks to disturb the serenity. Good clear instructions - only at point 10 where the steps down to the right had been replaced with a boardwalk could I find any fault with the text - only a minor change as the way was clear. This would be a good walk in the wet - the Woodlands Trust have done a good job with duck boards and wire mesh covered boardwalks protecting the river bank and making the walking delightfully smooth and easy. Highly recommended. Well done.
