The walk passes by Castle Hill (derelict Mortimer castle), and then continues on a long, wide ridge between the Teme Valley and Cwm Heyope. This is called Wernygeufron Hill. A long, steady ascent brings you to Beacon Hill common. This is gentle hill country, and Beacon Hill is very rounded (and confusing in mist), but the route is always clear. If time allows you may investigate the hill further: look for the source of the Lugg and visit the tumuli (see OS map). There are groups of semi-wild horses and red kites may be seen on a lucky day. Return off the hill the way you came and then follow Glyndwr's Way for a while. Finally return to Knucklas via a little used route along a gentle ridge between two small cwms (valleys).   NOTE: Beacon Hill is 547m, and is usually much colder than the valleys; make sure you have warm clothes.

A really good walk and easy to follow instructions. Lovely scenery and views, wild horses, sheep, rabbits, loads of red kite and a bull which nicely moved off the path for us. Quite a tiring start with a few climbs but the long walk along the ridge gives plenty of time to recover. The views from Beacon Hill trig point are well worth the little climb up with the wild horses. We finished in the Castle Inn, where we stayed the night, enjoying good beer and food.

Thanks for this fantastic walk. We did it on a clear November day with frozen puddles everywhere and saw lots of red kites.
