The route described here uses the gondola from La Grande Terche to the walk start. The gondola runs every day in the summer holidays (July and August). On other days an alternative is to start at Graydon, to which you can drive.

The walk takes you to the base of the Roc D'Enfer with a short scramble to the ridge that leads to the Roc D'Enfer summit (going to the summit is an option for competent mountaineers and will add a couple of hours to the walk). The final scramble up to the ridge at La Golette is tricky, hence the grading as 'mountain challenge'. It should only be attempted in dry weather and if you have a good head for heights. An alternative route to Graydon can be taken if you decide to opt out. Alternatively Walk 295 visits the Graydon valley and crosses the easier Col Ratti.

After crossing the Roc D'Enfer ridge you visit the gorgeous alpine pastures above Graydon; this is a remote valley where you may be lucky enough to see a marmot. You drop down to the hamlet of Graydon, where you can lunch and buy traditional cheeses.

The route goes back to the gondola station. If your timing is right you can catch the gondola down or you can descend through the forest to the ski station of La Grande Terche.

This walk shound not be done in reverse if crossing the ridge at La Golette. The path is considerably more dangerous to descend.
