Parking at the roadside, we take a track south-east heading for the village of La Hoz. This walk involves some road-walking on quiet country roads with the remainder on tracks that in the winter months can be quite muddy but passable. The destination is the waterfall of La Hoz, situated at the end of a valley that is filled with trees and shrubs unlike anywhere else in the local area; you could believe that you were in a different country. The valley sides are steep and the scenery is wonderful. Look out for goats and eagles on the rocky slopes above. When at the walk's destination, take time to explore the area that was once the water source for the village, the abandoned water pipes and cabins left as a reminder of days gone by. A clamber to the top of the footpath allows views of the waterfall. During the cooler months the water gushes down from the mountain above the village of Rute and trout, frogs and water snakes bask in the clear water. In the blistering summer months the water disappears and the riverbed is left dry, but the valley is still full of life with the birds and animals that live within the shade of this beautiful valley.
