The ideal option, if you have the means to be picked up at the end of the walk at La Molina, thus avoiding a very stiff climb at the end, is to park at Canales near the start of Walk 5748 and enjoy the ramble down the steep lane to La Molina. However, we parked at La Molina and began from there. To begin with there is a delightful way down through the hamlet of La Molina and then a fairly steep but short footpath down to the ancient stone bridge, Puente Pompedro. From here we simply follow a truly delightful path following the course of the Rio Castaño upstream through beech and chestnut woods and peaceful forest glades, heading south-west. It is hard to put into words the beauty of the valley and the cascading waters. There are many wonderful natural pools in which to take a refreshing dip. We cross two bridges and continue as far as the way allows comfortably. Eventually the way becomes very difficult with undergrowth and low branches and it is time to turn around and simply retrace our footsteps, enjoying the wonderful scenery from the opposite perspective. The final climb up to La Molina is a little unwelcome but it is short and shady.
