This is one of the great walks of the area, traversing Aljibe, the highest part of the Algornocales Natural Park. On a clear day the views are simply stunning. From the top of Aljibe you look south-east to Gibraltar and over the western end of the Mediterranean to North Africa and the Riff Mountains and throughout the whole descent you have views of the whole Costa de la Luz from Tarifa past Cadiz to Donana and beyond.

The walk starts at the La Sauceda recreation area, climbing first to the deserted village of La Sauceda with its ruined water mill and church. Leaving the village you start the climb proper through cork oaks past the hidden hermitage. After a short stretch on a forest track you climb again, to emerge above the tree line just before the summit.

After visiting the summit you descend on the western side of the Algorocales range on a forest track following the Puerto Oscura with fine views of Picacho and the sea. The walk ends by crossing the nature trail below Picacho and at the Picacho recreation area near Km 13 on the road between Alcala de los Gazules and Ubrique.
