This is a most interesting short walk in Wester Ross, about ten miles south of Ullapool. (It's easily combined with Walk 4546, only three miles away, to give a longer outing).

The Forest Garden is so-called because it displays 200 species of trees imported from all over the world. Now tended by the Forestry Commission (since 1929) the garden was originated by a series of enthusiasts, who imported many of the trees, so the original ones are now of considerable age. The species are listed at the car park and most of them are named on the walk: sequoia or wellingtonia, stately Douglas firs, a medley of maples and a Cricket Bat Willow.

The walk also includes an extension beyond the garden into a woodland walk and a short detour to a pretty waterfall.

It's a pleasant (and informative) family walk whether you are staying in the area or motoring in Wester Ross. In dry weather footwear is optional; parts could be muddy if wet. Dogs are welcome.
