This is a delightful exploration of a deep gorge west of Lairg and Bonar Bridge. Part of the walk is along the top, looking down into the gorge, while suspended wooden walkways enable penetration along the bottom, following the Allt Mor (Big Burn).
The gorge is another world, a more primitive one. The mixed woodland, a sheltered ecosystem on its own, seems prehistoric, growing out of precipitous bare and moss-covered rocks. But for the recently constructed walkways, the gorge would have remained unknown to walkers...
An excellent family walk, a voyage of discovery; no special footwear is needed, but boots are best. Dogs are welcome.
