A linear walk mainly along the two former railway lines that join Lanchester to Consett in the rolling hills of north Durham. This seemingly flat walk ever so gradually rises over its length by some five hundred feet. The walk also features several huge pieces of industrial art close to Consett that reflect the connection the former steelworks had with this area.
The walk starts from the centre of Lanchester Village and within a couple of hundred yards intersects the Lanchester Valley Railway Path, the first of two railway paths covered in this walk. The path ends at Lydgetts Junction, where four railway paths intersect and where the first piece of industrial sculpture is located. The walk then changes to the Consett and Sunderland Railway Path, which within half a mile passes two more huge pieces of industrial sculpture relating to the former Consett Ironworks that was located close by. The final half mile of the walk is entirely along the pavements through Consett to end at the main Bus Station. A bus ride from Consett back to the start of the walk at Lanchester completes this memorable walk. (See below for Bus Info').
