This is only a short walk but explores a lovely quiet area of Lakeland. The walk starts off at the National Trust Car Park at Lanthwaite Woods and follows forest tracks through the trees to the lakeshore. The views over the lake are beautiful, with the steep slopes of Mellbreak over to the right. The route follows the path close to the lakeshore and round through the woods until you reach Lanthwaite Green Farm.
After passing the farm the route enters the lower slopes of the open fellside. An ancient homestead is passed (some earthworks can be seen over to the right) and the Liza Beck is followed up to a footbridge, where you cross the beck and head north. The route gains a small amount of height but enough for open views over this part of the valley. The route then heads along the south side of Brackenthwaite before returning to the car park via the Lorton Road.
