This is one of three circular walks from the renowned mediaeval town of Mirepoix in the foothills of the Pyrenees.
You start from the car park in Mirepoix's old station on the disused railway line which used to link Pamiers with Limoux. From here you climb up a country lane heading south through the hamlet of Sibra, before heading west along farm tracks across an area known as La Charmante du Peyrade.
The route then follows a steep track down a river valley called the Comme Longue before emerging in a flat valley bottom and crossing meadows into the village of Besset. After crossing the busy D119, the path descends to the line of the old Mirepoix - Pamiers railway which runs along the valley of the River Hers.
Once in Mirepoix, the walk meanders through residential streets before entering the mediaeval town centre through the 14th Century Porte d'Aval. Here you cross the arcaded market square, where you can take a well-earned drink and snack in one of the many picturesque cafes before returning to the car park.
