This is one of three circular walks from the renowned mediaeval town of Mirepoix in the foothills of the Pyrenees.

You start from the car park in Mirepoix's old station on the disused railway line which used to link Pamiers with Limoux. From here you walk for about 2km along the disused railway line, before turning onto a country lane which winds its way up a small river valley.

Leaving the lane, you climb up to Camp Grand on a path which takes you through woodland and eventually to the ruins of the hamlet of Le Quié. From here there are views across the Aude Hills.

Just after you start the descent, there is an opportunity to climb up to a viewpoint where, on a clear day, you have magnificent views of the Pyrenees. However, the main route continues down along a picturesque path through woodland and meadows, eventually emerging into open pastures and rejoining the old railway line back to Mirepoix.

5/4/2014 - Mike Garland

Finished this walk on 4th May 2014, a sunny day but it was very muddy due to last 9 days rain. At point 5 perhaps it should be made clear that you turn back uphill immediately on arriving at the tarmac road? Small point but the Esso Garage is now another supplier -cant recall name so maybe change to 'Fuel or Petrol Station' to avoid confusion as there is only one fuel station at the start point. Thanks for doing this - we are staying in region and hope to do more walks. We noted that some of your route from 6 onwards had 'yellow' markers. We really take for granted the excellent markers available on UK footpaths. Kind regards Mike and Alison Garland
