A great walk on excellent paths all the way round; it is primarily a grouse-shooting area and all of the paths are well-maintained for the gamekeepers and customers, but are free to any walkers. You will pass many grouse butts and mink traps on the way. Local legend says that the Priest's Pool was named after a priest was drowned in it by a local man called 'Jock of Snar' after he caught the priest trying to make love to his wife. The village of Leadhills has the highest residential hotel in the UK, the Hopetoun Arms and the owners Rab and Rachel Campbell will make you very welcome; if the hotel looks as if it is closed, just knock on a door or window and they will open for groups of people, or phone on 01659-74234. The area boasts many other attractions (see Additional Info').
