Our walk starts outside the Horse and Groom pub in Linby and after a short walk down the main street we walk along the edges of fields, past a fishing pond to come out into the second village, Papplewick. There is an enchanting row of cottages that we pass as we walk by the roadside before turning off down a lane, past a farm and then onto a country lane bordering fields.

As we continue in a straight line we start to enter the old deciduous woodland that makes up Newstead Abbey Estate. Newstead Abbey was once the home of poet Lord Byron and the ruined abbey and gardens are owned by Nottinghamshire County Council. Although our walk takes us freely through the grounds there, you may want to pause our walk, pay the admission fee and explore the lovely gardens here.

Our walk then takes us out of the Newstead Estate along a straight country road to join a disused railway bed converted into a lovely path bordering hedgerows. The path emerges at a roundabout where we turn left back into the village of Linby.

Excellent walk, completed this walk on a Friday, previous comment correct on a weekend I would except this walk to be very popular.

Lovely walk, a bit busy on a Sunday but very good wet weather route - mostly firm tracks. Dog friendly, no stiles and only short distances on the lead.
