The walk starts at Burholme Bridge over the River Hodder. There is ample parking. The walk starts by going up a minor lane, which is one of the few proper roads you will walk on on this walk. The route takes you through New Laund Farm and up onto the fells of New Laund Hill, giving an excellent view down the tree-lined Hodder Valley at Whitewell with the Longridge Fells in the distance. Like many points on this walk, from here you also get great views across the valley.

Having reached Knot Hill, take time here to have a break and view the old limekiln and quarry behind it. Leaving the kiln behind, you will then ramble through farm fields which provide nonstop views of the Bowland Fells.

The walk takes you through the working farms of Fair Oak, Lickhurst Dinkling Green and Higher Wood, so expect to encounter sheep, cattle and working dogs.

This is a comfortable ramble with nothing strenuous to test you.

Fabulous views as well as pleasant walking. Dog friendly as long as they are on a lead (sheep, pheasants...) The suggested lunch stop is indeed absolutely perfect, with a bench to sit on and a lovely panorama to admire. After rain, the whole area gets very soggy and rather muddy in places, so do come prepared! But otherwise, don't miss this little gem.
