The historic market town of Littleport stands on a rise. Centuries ago it was a remote place and isolated, surrounded by swamps and water. The route takes the walker 'down' to the fens with its black soil and vast views of the countryside and returns along the bank of the River Great Ouse. The paths are in good order and well-signed. In the town The Crown Inn in the town does not serve food, but there are pizza / burger places that do.
