This walk is not too strenuous, consisting as it does of an initial walk through fields in the valley bottom and a long, sustained climb at an easy angle. The ascent is followed by a gently sloping track directly back to the village affording good views of the Berwyns and of higher hills to the north. The pub is very welcoming and used to walkers and the picnic area by the river is most attractive.

We started off in the car park. Went through caravan park and upwards passing through the farm. Steadily climbing up until we reached a summit with the river on our right. Our route was supposed to be a circular crossing the river and returning back down to the village. Unfortunately there was no crossing and we had to retrace our route back down. Also we encountered a shooting party which was a bit uncomfortable, one of our party had a shotgun discharged at birds while we were passing by. Not sure who has control over this or whether suitable signage should be stopping walking while shooting is taking place. Peter Hill Stockbridge Village Ramblers Oct 5th 2024

I’m afraid we didn’t really enjoy this walk until the return leg when the views were in front of us. The first part along the valley was uninspiring and went through a very smelly farm, the next part was a bit of an uphill trudge through the woods with no views. Most of the walk was on hard surface. However our dog loved it! We were following the walk on Viewranger but the lack of waymarks made this very tricky as the bendy trails didn’t fit with the straight lines between points.

At point 11 "the main route, though, is unmistakeable....". The main road looks like you go to the right, but if you continue straight (as described) you will not go wrong - like we did this September. Beautiful walk!
